as far as the second shelter is concerned, I think he is using it so that he is not cooking near his sleepiong shelter. As stated before, this guy is very afraid of bears. It did look like he was chopping down dead trees on the pre show, but I could be wrong.

Looks like Ed didn't make it... Apparently he was talking to insects and suffering from malnutrition.

"Based on a discussion with Ed via his emergency satellite phone, it was decided to pull him out of the wild on Saturday (21st August)."

I just saw the re-cap show where they took the whole series and condensed it into an hour. I liked it, but I could see how it would be a long TV series.

I watched that show , was bummed he gave up. It seemed like he spent way too much time in one spot. Keep your eye out for dual survivor on discovery. I think it's supposed to be on this spring. Dave Canterbury of Youtube's wildernessoutfitters is one of the cast. He is based out of Ohio and runs a survival school called Pathfinder. He uses a hammock in some of his videos.

I'm going to use my first post on this thread. This show is the reason I know anything about hammocks. As soon as I saw it I started doing my research, watching YouTube, and exploring all the forums. Hammocks just make sense. I've yet to go on my first excursion, but will be hitting the AT in the next couple of months.

However, the hammock was the only thing of merit from the show. Though he claimed to be an outdoorsman, it was clear he wasn't a backpacker. And, I'm sorry, if I'm going to be out in the woods for three months, I'm bringing some books or other distractions to keep from going insane.

As far as survival shows go, I guess I find it more entertaining to watch someone that knows what they are doing (aka Les Stroud) vs. someone that doesn't.

Thanks Hammock Forums for being an inspiration!

I watched the whole series the first time it was on. Don't waste your time. Ed began crying by the third episode. Seems that hammock hanging was the best decision he made.
