Also, McBlaster, it turns out we are doing the mazo trip so I'll be sure to keep my eyes peeled for a good hang spot.

This year will be my first as a dedicated hanger but having done this run for the past 3 years we stay on the same islands every time and being familiar with them I don't think there will be a problem.
As far as the poison ivy, i'll just be very careful and not go too far into the small forests.

Awesome, maybe you could find some way of marking them for me. For some reason on google maps I cant drop a pin on an island without it trying to route me there via the closest road. Maybe you could try and maybe we could have a small database of good islands on those runs, just an idea.

Yeah, I had the same problem with Google maps.
I'm thinking of talking the group into camping on Long Island at 43.185251, -90.018046. It looks promising and is near the end of the mazo trip. I wish I knew the exact location of the Trader's campground.
Or some of the islands around 43.195378, -89.994325 look good.
That long island is directly across from Traders campsites. Scroll in real tight and you'll see a small pile of canoes where you finish your trip.
Those would work but I recommend the large island a little back upstream, you cant miss it. That's where we stay 2 nights.

Wish I had the time to go again this weekend! We usually start at Sauk so I never get as far as Long Island the first day but I have gone past it many times and it should be good. On the east end across from the campground there is a nice campsite that should be cleared out good for hanging. It's set back in the trees and not so much a "sandbar".
There is also an island about a mile past the Arena takeout that I would think has a couple good hang spots here 43.188259, -89.928750 The southeast corner of this island has been our night one home many times and it is a nice secluded area which we appreciate.
I am down with the idea of locating hang spots. I should be making one to two more trips yet this season and will start keeping a better eye!
They're all really good island sites. Every time I've gone I end up packing out other peoples trash. I did find a way to drop pins on google earth, the standalone program not maps. It just wont let me log in now.
