    Hi PatT,

Registration will be pretty straightforward; we can do it at the Rock Lake Ranger Station. Normally we try to meet up at a prearranged time and register together, but we also share our permit number by private message before the trip so that if you arrive late, you just tell the office the permit # and your details (car/tent), pay your fee and they'll add you to the group. We'll have told the rangers in advance of the names of our group so you'll be expected.

If I'm not mistaken, the coordinates of last year's fall hang were 45.469083N 78.389282W, the western of the two islands at the north end of Pen.

First time in Algonquin. You're in for a treat!

    On the water Thursday
    • Iguana - Solo/Stern
    • ggreaves - Stern
    • 76 Highboy - Solo
    • Old boot - Bow
    • Entropy - Bow

    On the water Friday
    • Sturgeon - Solo/Stern
    • Chard - Solo/Stern
    • Chenvre - Stern
    • PatT - Solo/Stern

    Testing the water/unconfirmed
    • Bubba? - Bow

To those of you going in Thursday: Can I suggest that two of you book the permit(s), that way we'll have room for everyone and hopefully we can occupy both sites on the island. Like usual, just book & pay for yourself and we can add to it as required at the ranger station.

    Thanks for the details!

Also, let us know how much we owe you for the group meal so we can bring exact amount in cash.

If I recall, it was roughly 5 dollars per a meal last time..

It's a nice drive to APP. I'd imagine 4.5 hours from MTL to the launch.

If you've never done the drive before, and you're coming via the 417, try to get on highway 60 at Horton (Bruce street) so you circumvent going through Renfrew. It should save you a good 20 mins.

    Hope you can join us!

Thanks for the meal price info.

According to Google Maps, the drive is more in the 6 hour range. I also need to make a stop at a Canadian Tire for my fishing licence, probably in Arnprior. Noted about going around Renfrew, thanks !

Well, with those good ol' Canadian 2 lane highways, it's possible, but I can get to the east gate in under 3 hours from Ottawa, and west gate is only a 45 min drive from there. Granted I've been fortunate on traffic and I tend to drive a little fast!

I am 2 hours away from Ottawa and with a canoe on top, I tend to stick to posted speed limits. Anyways, I will leave very early on Friday. I'd rather paddle fast than drive fast !

Heh, I am the opposite! Hurry and get there so I can slow down and relax!

Just get there safe, that's all that matters.

Side note - ill try to bring some cornbread biscuits or something similar for everyone for one of the meals. Bannock sounds like a great idea also for the group!

I will bring my collection of tea samplers for those who would like to try something else, slightly exotic and different. Those are teas I have gathered through my travels or received from friends around the world.

Unfortunately my school trip is that weekend (Friday to Monday) and plenty of kids seem interested. If anyone wants to paddle up to Whitefish campground to either kidnap me or prank my students...

Just checking in...for sure coming Friday, probably afternoon. Count me in for group meals, Chard, and let me know what I can bring to contribute. I might be staying until Monday; I'll get a permit for Sunday night in that case.
