New guy from the Northern Reaches of New York State

    Hi all,

I've just ordered a WBBB and look forward to learning from and interacting with everyone. I live in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, as far north as it gets in NYS. I'm about an hour south of Montreal, Canada.

If there's anyone in the area give me a shout!

    Welcome to the addiction!

I venture into the adks just about every other week.

Cool. Where do you tend to go? I was at Floodwood Road near Lake Clear last weekend. Some really nice car camping sites there if you are into that.

I haven't hiked and camped in a long time, so I'm a bit out of shape! But it's something I'd like to get back into, even if starting out small.

Last time I was along Floodwood Rd was a few years back for a canoe trip. In general I tend to stay away from the eastern side of the Adks, due to distance. Spend a lot of time in the Western High Peaks, West Canada Lakes, 5 Ponds Wilderness, Silver Lake Wilderness, Black River WF, the NPT,... to name a few of my common stomping grounds. I also do a variety of types of trips, mostly backpacking but I do canoe trips and some car camping as well. Check out my trip logs in my signature line. These are the trips from when I started putting them online.

Welcome from SC. You will love your WBBB once you find it's sweet spot. With fall right around the corner start looking at Underquilts! AHE has a great anniversary sale that ends tomorrow that includes a 3 season UQ the Jarbridge for $75!

    Thanks doc and 401!

    Duct,

I haven't hiked out that way but I did go to college at RIT.

I paddle also but I have 49lbs behemoth Wilderness Solutions Pungo 120, so I don't portage it too far! I have yet to paddle and camp. My camping buddy doesn't have a boat and my kayaking buddy doesn't like to camp anywhere that doesn't have full toilet facilities! I need new buddies!!

I'll definitely check out your logs. I wish I was that organized so that I could better document mine.

ADKGuy, 49 lbs isn't that bad. I grew up with a Grumman Aluminum canoe which had to be close to 90 lbs. Our portages were minimal back then. Keep your buddies and do stuff with them which you all enjoy and find additional friends which will enjoy the other types of trips. HF is a good place to find them. I have met quite a few people from here (and the adkforum) with whom I enjoy backpacking/canoeing. I would encourage you to keep a journal of your trips, even if it is handwritten. Looking back on mine, it is amazing how much I had forgotten about each trip. The journal brings back memories. I need to add more details to mine. I am getting better. RIT huh. both my father and sister graduated from there.

Hi ADKGuy! I'm an ADKer myself and I'm looking into this hammock thing. I live in Saranac Lake. Where are you?
