    DIY Gear Supply Asym tarp math?

    I think I might be missing something here, but when I calculate the width of the DIY gear supply asym tarp, I get a much smaller number than it claims.

    Using this calculator, I calculated the altitude of half of the tarp, using the following numbers:
    a=118-16=102
    b=62
    c=132
    Which gives an altitude of 46.37". Which is makes the width of the tarp 92.74", not 105". Did I make a clumsy error?

    I get the same numbers as you do. I actually redrew the whole thing and calculated all the edge lengths. The 62" and 132" are accurate (well, to the nearest inch), but I'm not sure where they're getting the 105" from.

    105" might be the straight-line distance between the 2 corners, but I'm still working on checking that. Even so, that's not what the picture shows, nor is it at all useful to know that distance for an asym tarp.

    EDIT: 105" is, to the nearest inch, the straight line distance between the 2 non ridgline tieouts. I'm still not sure how this is useful information to have on the diagram or why they label it the way they do.

    This confuses me just from the get-go. Do you cut one piece of fabric? Sew two together? I just don't know how you'd get a piece of sil or other coated fabric that was 105" wide. I've never seen something that wide on their site.

    It's a 60" x 118" rectangle with two 16" triangles cut out of the ends. This gives you a diamond with a 132" diagonal along the ridgeline and a 105" diagonal between the other two corners. This means you have a tarp with a 132" ridgeline and, as Bushwhacker pointed out above, a ~93" width.

    DIY Gear Supply sells Sil Nylon 62" wide.

    Buy 10 feet, cut diagonally 16" off each corner as shown on the drawing.

    Easy Peasy.
