I don't own one yet (in the mail), but I can tell you it replaces the net.

Placed my order for a Blackbird XLC w/ winter cover this afternoon! So in 2-3 weeks I should he "hangin' around" in my new XLC! Will do a few recon camps in September in preparation for the Fall camping season up here in the Adirondacks.
Yep I'm hitting the dacks in September myself.
Cool, to see so many Adirondack folks. We should talk about doing a group hang. I'm a newbie but always willing to learn.
welcome to the BB Clan
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
I hope you enjoy your new hammock. That is basically my primary goto camping hammock these days very comfortable and versatile. DL WBBB XLC with extra fabric winter cover which I may never really need and rarely use. These zip on winter covers are labor intensive to make not necessarily something you can order later so what the hey just get it on the rare case it makes a difference on some trip some time. Likewise if in the future you do a very long backpacking trip and are not able to drop enough weight elsewhere you can always buy a ultra light hammock for just that purpose and be less comfortable for just that complete thru hike from Maine all the way down the AT after all when are you going to get that much time off work again. OH I joke a bit.
So some folks go on and on about how much they hate whoopie slings and UCRs and the latest UL fad item such as that. Well they will not cure heart disease but are fun to play with and significantly lighter than the WB stock webbing and straps (which I mostly use and like) but if for relatively long backpacking trips I.e. 6+ miles a day 3+ nights or whatever is medium long for you, it may be worth following the video instructions from WB and swapping out the fast covenant webbing + buckle for a Dutch hook + whoopie sling + short tree hugger Web strap or something equivalent to that I.e. semi ultra light. So that is just how I roll, take it for what it is worth. Good luck in the futures and derivatives trading so you can soon backpack the entire length of the PCT or AT or some other on your bucket list. ;-)
I love my BB XLC and it likes my 250#. It is very easy to take off bug net, add Top Cover, or nothing at all. It's like a Traviler if you so desire.
