HTML (or whatever) tags to avoid line breaks in the middle of a linked text

Not sure this is the place for the inquiry, but it seems the least bad fit. When inserting links through the little icon above, and you name them appropriately with several words, is there any code you can insert in the text that makes the linked text not break in lines - or if the text is at a line break, the whole linked text follows to the next line (I'm imagining something like [nolinebreak][/nolinebreak] although I'm sure there would be some more sophisticated tag for it..)?

Can't you just start the link on a new line, basically adding the line break by hitting enter? (I don't know.) If the line of text is too long, will part of it carry over to the next line anyway?
< b r > should force a line break?

Yes, that's what I used to do. My main reason for asking is that I want to use it for the links in my sig line to my trip reports, and since they are starting to add up I wanted it to take less space by not using a new line for every one.. but then when the line breaks the linked text it sort of messes it up a little.

I think to achieve your goal you'll need to use the BBCode tags to create a table. Something like:

PHP Code:
[table]
[
tr]
[
tdlink1 [/td] [tdlink2 [/td] [tdlink3 [/td
[/
tr] [tr]
[
tdlink4 [/td] [tdlink5 [/td] [tdlink6 [/td
[/
tr]
[/
table
which will look like:

link1 link2 link3
link4 link5 link6

I don't know of a way to force non-breaking without having access to the underlying code. What may work for you is to replace your spaces with non-breaking spaces. So edit in HTML and replace " " with " "

Thanks both. I tried printgeek's advice first, and it actually works! However... then I run into the barrier of the 1,000 characters that is allowed in your sig line... Guess I'll have to keep it as it is, and htink of something else in two trips' time when the reports links exceed the characters allowed. :-/

How about using a URL shortening service like http://bit.ly to shrink all your url's in your sig? That has the added benefit of tracking how many times people click the links in your signature.

Thanks, I'll give that a try!
