I just started hammock camping last spring so I only have a few trips under my belt, mostly in southern Illinois (Shawnee National Forest and some state parks). Still learning and getting my techniques down but it's going well and so far my only real problem is learning to sleep on my back. The hammock is extremely comfortable but at home I'm primarily a belly sleeper so I'm still trying to train myself to back sleep.
A benefit of being awake at night is listening to the deer and racoons sneaking up to check me out then racing madly away when I move.
Whenever the wife gives me a kitchen pass I like to throw my backpack on the motorcycle, head south a couple of hours, park and hike into the woods for a night or two away from it all. Drop me a line if you need someone to camp with.
My main other love is flying paramotors. I can be seen flying along the Kaskaskia river or buzzing corn fields on nice evenings.
