Lately I've been working on a little project, which incidentally is my first hammock build.
Here's the concept - take mostly vintage New Old Stock army surplus materials and use them to make a camping hammock. I've gathered everything I need for the build, just need to put it all together. The materials list is as follows:
- 2.8m (9.5 ft) of 1960s vintage 50D camouflage print nylon cloth for the hammock body
- Suspension made from 60s vintage 1-inch olive drab cotton webbing
- Cinch buckles on suspension made from oxidised brass rings doubled up
- Side tie-outs on hammock body made from vintage OD grosgrain ribbon and OD milspec shock cord
- Tarp is a 1969 olive drab 70D nylon hootchie tarp
- Removeable mosquito netting is made from a lightly modified 1970s Australian army insect net
As of this evening I've done the basic hammock body. Here are some pics -

Hammock test-slung between two too-close-together anchors. I'm hoping to test it in daylight in the morning.

I'll document the rest of the build in this thread as I go along.
Thanks for looking :-)
