They figure a lot more than that out.

Yea I'm not a gram guy so I'm perfectly fine with it. I'll have my brother let me know how it stands up after a few hiking trips.
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......

    Greetings,
I saw "Tyvek" and thought i'd share what i came up with for a camp set up for my wife and i.
We Car Camp...so we're not worried about weight. OK we are, as our rig is a Chevy 1500 AWD Van conversion and we sit close to the GVWR of 7k when loaded and rolling down the road. That includes our hammock gear and tyvek

So three seasons ago I purchased 6 of these 8 x 10 plain white tyvek ground tarps. I use them nearly every trip out in some configuration. Here is this week's shot:

What you see is four tarps taped together with clear gorilla tape on both sides. Then i've run paracord from corner to corner to take up the stress of rigging (taped with same tape in appropriate areas). This tarp has seen TORRENTIAL downpours for several days straight and only after the forth day i noticed some drips on the underside, and when i looked closer they had taken place due to pin-sized holes from damage (pine cones??).

Other uses have been privacy screens between our two rigs (sometimes we bring along our 15ft fiberglass trailer) or a sun shade for part of camp to shade our two Engle Deep Blue coolers (in the shade on ~75>80 days the ice will keep below ~34 for about 7 days) as shown here:

I like the product for car camping, though i am clueless to the needs of backpackers so i can't share this product's viability for that use.

And yes, we do enjoy the hammocks in trees in the same camp at cliff's edge with river below. Some serious siesta time, and we will stay in them till after dark and enjoy the night sounds, but we've yet to add underquilts and such for actual overnight late season sleeping...so it's back into the van with its Froli Sleep System. Next best thing to a hammock.

    Cheers,
    Thom
