    Returning to the Fold

After a long absence from not just the forums, but from hammocking and hiking as well, I'm getting in shape and returning to my dream of through-hiking the Appalachian Trail. Meanwhile, I hope to spend a lot of comfortable nights hanging in the woods.

I'm sure a lot of things have changed while I've been away. Already I've seen new cottage industries pop up, new products from old names, new techniques I know nothing about. I'd greatly appreciate any direction you'd like to give me to get up to speed on all the new developments in hanging. I'm especially interested to hear from those of you who've hammocked through long-distance treks on the AT.

Any of you Kentucky folks near Louisville, give me a yell.

Welcome back and best wishes on your training for the AT. That's my long term goal as well

Welcome back! I dont know about long distance AT... but I did some two-nighters earlier this year in April on a section in PA near Hawk Mtn. Im not sure my advice is what youre looking for but I will add it anyway. Plan plan plan for your water!! DONT RELY ON THE SPRINGS!! I never wished for rain so bad in my life and thankfully it did. We collected water in a tarp, boiled smaller quantities, then used a sawyer to refill our bladders/bottles/etc...
