    Hello from Central Iowa

Hey all. New hanger here from Central Iowa. Been car camping for a while but now I want to take it to the next level by backpacking and hammocking. I've had my ENO Double Nest for a while but this summer I finally got my first night sleeping under the stars with it. Last week I installed hardware in my bedroom and have been hanging every night since.

One thing that I'm curious about is where you hang in Central Iowa. I've been to the hike in campsites at Ledges. Once the hike in campsites at Yellow Banks open back up I'll be heading down there. Are there any other good spots within an hours drive of Des Moines? I don't need anything with an epic hike or anything like that, just some places that I can get to for a quick overnight or weekend hang so that I can fine tune my hammock gear.

Looking forward to many more nights in my hammock and perhaps meeting some of you on the trail.

    Welcome from Philly.
When I was a kid the only time we were in the house was to eat and sleep.

Welcome from SC. I don't know where you can hang in IA. My husband's family is from central IA, and when we go back I take my turtle dog stand and use it either in a campground or a relative's yard.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

Welcome, twodollars. I am not familiar with your area but check out the 'Hangouts, Camping, Group' forum. (that's not what it's called but I can't think of it right now.) Can't help you with nearby camping spots but there is usually a fall hang at Yellow River State Forest that would not be too far for you if you had the weekend off.
