    Hammock stand ideas

Ok, I just (extremely just) got onto hammocking and absolutely love it. I wish I would have known about it before.... Bla bla bla....... Any way my son and I have a hunting trip coming up in October and it is in an area where trees are extremely scarce. Now that I have slept on a hammock I WILL NOT sleep in a tent so I am looking for some ideas on a simple compact Hammock stand. I have the tools (welder, tube bender, metal lathe, tube notcher, plasma cutter, and all sorts of wood working tools) to build anything, be it wood or metal. I would love to get some ideas and cool designs to build a couple. Any help would be appreciated.

Camping at a drive up base camp or will you need to carry in the stands?

Shipping is pricey on these and you are limited to ~10' hammocks, but this is the lightest most compact stand available if you have to pack it in and the discount ends today...https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ders-gt-%A399)

Drive up base, and shipping is not an issue as I WILL be making it (DIY). Material as in steel or aluminum is also not an issue. I can build put of both. Just looking for cool ideas. Thanks for the reply.

You can do a search on here for a Turtledog stand. That is an easy very solid DIY stand. I have a few and they slide right I to the back of my pick up.

Sounds like we have some common interests. I also have a machine shop in my garage.
Built this one mostly for hotel traveling but if you are interested I could send you enough details to put you on track.

That would be my favorite if I could get the pipes here in Germany.

If you want a super light stand and are willing to spend some money, have a look at the Handy Hammock stand.

Be aware, though, that most hammock stands flex, especially the lighter ones. This means if you want to hang a hammock with a structural ridgeline, the ridgeline will probably sag - no matter how much you tighten the suspension. Not much of an issue for no-net hammocks or hammocks with a stand-alone bug net. But with integrated hammocks it can be a bit of a bother.

Thanks for all the links and ideas guys, looks like alot of different stand have been built and tried.
Thumbs, I love yours and and have all the tools to do so except the mill to mill out the flat spots for the legs on top peice, but then again, they could be tig welded on. I assume that on your design you tapped the horizontal peice and the ajoining leg peice and used a threaded rod for attaching them? I would love some specifics on your design. PM sent
