    Video: Grandfather Mountain overnight

I'm working my way thru places in NC that I haven't backpacked yet, and it was time for a classic - Grandfather Mountain.
It is just under 6000' in elevation, and a great place for one more (last?) summer trip.

Grandfather has two sides - one part funhouse (ladders, cables and views), one part challenging/dangerous (harsh weather, elevation gain, serious cliffs).

We carried extra clothes (hat/gloves in August) while dropping weight elsewhere.
We ditched the hammocks (hearsy, I know), left the stove at home, cut the toliet paper ration in half - anything to help this out-of-shape person get up the mountain.
My daughter said her pack weight was great, lighter than her backpack for school.

Shout out to @Tacoma96 for his post last year giving me some idea what to expect.

Hey Paul & Natalie!! What a great trip. I liked the "Flat Rock Gymnastic Team" tryouts. I believe she nailed it. Too bad all the views weren't there, but there was plenty enough. "YOLO" thanks for that, it went over my head. Glad you stayed safe. Thanks for sharing that.

Looks like you guys had a blast! Those ladders look like a hoot! Glad you had fun with your daughter

Where can I find more information on this? I'd love to try it for myself sometime!

    TallPaul,

Thanks for posting the video. GF Mtn is a fun place to visit. It is a favorite part of the BRP for my family when we travel the route.

This is on the list, but I've got a lot of work to do before I'm going to try it.

TallPaul + Thumbs = great video trip!

I thoroughly enjoyed your last trip to Greyson Highlands, and this one's another winner! You two make an awesome team - beautiful to see a relationship like yours, given today's societal mindset of "leave me alone, I'll text ya later!" My daughter turned 14 this year and I'm struggling to keep the dad-daughter camaraderie alive. She has been my most enthusiastic camping partner over the years, although I see maturity pulling her further from me each day. Hang on to what you've got as long as you can. I commend you both!

Love your trip reports TallPaul...I've got 4 blonde beauties myself, but they are a bit young to take on the trail. Although, My eight year old wants to do a trip this fall. Your vids give me glimpse of my future (hopefully!). God Bless...

TP, I nod my head in agreement of the words Klauss wrote.

I took much enjoyment as I watched along!
