I'm working my way thru places in NC that I haven't backpacked yet, and it was time for a classic - Grandfather Mountain.
It is just under 6000' in elevation, and a great place for one more (last?) summer trip.
Grandfather has two sides - one part funhouse (ladders, cables and views), one part challenging/dangerous (harsh weather, elevation gain, serious cliffs).
We carried extra clothes (hat/gloves in August) while dropping weight elsewhere.
We ditched the hammocks (hearsy, I know), left the stove at home, cut the toliet paper ration in half - anything to help this out-of-shape person get up the mountain.
My daughter said her pack weight was great, lighter than her backpack for school.
Shout out to @Tacoma96 for his post last year giving me some idea what to expect.
