    nite ize knot bone kit

I found 2 of these sets at local Gander Mtn. for $5 ea. Thought I'd try them out for guy line tensioners on my tarp. They aren't the lightest in the world but should be close to weight of the 550 cord that I used to use and certainly easier to adjust than taught line hitch knots (especially in driving rain). Installed them tonight and looking forward to seeing them in action as soon as I can get back to the woods.

Each set came with four ''bones'' and 25' of line.

Anyone else tried these? Feedback welcomed.

Used these on my tarp Ridgeline s well enough. Never with tieouts. Always preferred the claim cleat for that.

I'm not familiar with the claim cleat.

.........googled claim cleat and I found clam cleat. I've used those in the past on my tents and was never a huge fan. Not sure if the knot bones will be less or more of a hassle, but we'll see.

I just use a marlin spike hitch on my guylines - never had any desire for the extra weight of hardware.

This is the set up I carry four of when I use my Superfly to tension the tarp. Works well for me ... weight is minimal (6 grams) ... I just like the ease of attachment. Oh yeah I keep calling it a "dog bone" ... brain fart ... I have them often

    see if Mikey likes them

I bought some of those nite ize mini bones and larger ones many years ago because they looked "cool", my tech geek years. I took them on several car camping trips to try out, but was always to busy having fun to bother with them. Like SilvrSurfr said a MSH with a twig or something is so fast and easy there really is no point to extra hardware no matter how cool looking the photos and videos are. Personally I rarely even use a ground stake, because shrubs and saplings hold better in strong wind. But your experience may vary, let us know how they work out for you. I really should attach one or two my guy lines and force myself to use them. Like that T.V. ad from the 1970's "See if Mikey likes it" LOL

BTW My kids and I still eat Cinnamon Life Cereal, got hooked back in 1972, so perhaps there is a chance my kids will convince me to use mini plastic dog bones from Nite Ize. But a flexible sapling or willow branch freshly cut will always be better than some dang elastic cord. IMO Ask any First Nation's person they will tell you.

I've tried them and they are ok but I can tie a knot or a hitch in about the same amount of time as using a knot bone. I admit that I like knots over hardware because its good to know knots if you are trekking in the woods.

I have a CRL with a dogbone on one end and it is an easy way up get a nice "V" in your ridge line for your suspension to go through. I picked that one up from whoopieslings.com
