    Tarp Repair: ember holes

    Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right place for this, apologies if not.

I was camping last weekend and struggled a bit with high winds. Even with a fire reflector a couple of embers from the fire blew onto my DD shelter tarp and I now have a couple of holes in my tarp. I'm sure this has happened to a couple on here in the past and wondered how best to repair them and if there is a kit you could recommend?

The holes are no bigger than a 5 pence piece

    Thanks

I think I would sandwich the holes between 2 patches of the tarp material, and use the appropriate adhesive to attach them. If it's silnylon I found liquid nails 100% silicone adhesive worked well on the tarp I just finished. I don't know if this is the best solution though, I'm sure others with more experience will have suggestions too.

5 pence is the size of dime. Worth about the same too.

I'd probably just use a single layer on the outside. Circular patch at least 3x diameter of hole, silicone adhesive. If in a high stress area, I might stitch when the adhesive was dry, and then seal the stitching.

The two dime sized circles of silnylon cemented with 100% has worked for me to repair ember holes in silnylon tarp.

Dd tarps are pu coated, not sil.. I think your best/easiest option is tenacious tape. I'm 90% sure I've seen it on dd website but it is available plenty other places as well. Remember to round the edges so the corners don't peel. Alpkit also just started selling a similar clear tape that would work well too.

Thanks all, got tear-aid and tenacious tape on the way and see which does the better job!
