    Newbie Dutch Clip Question

    Hey folks,

The only sorts of suspension I've tried have involved passing the working end of a strap back through the sewn loop. I've heard a lot of positive things about Dutch Clips without anyone defining the advantage. Perhaps it's obvious once you try them, but as a noob, I don't get it yet. Clearly all those hangers who love them must love them for a reason, so I'm not questioning that they're usefull...I'm just looking to understand before I buy. I have noticed some friction related damage on some straps...will this prevent that?

    Thanks!
    Andy

I'm sure I've seen Dutch post that they were designed for use with a cinch buckle suspension. You can leave the straps attached to the hammock, swing the strap round the tree then hook it into the Dutch clip and adjust the cinch buckle. For whoopie setups its just a little faster than threading through the loop. There might be less abrasion with a dutch clip but I'm not sure. I haven't noticed any wear with the webbing I've been using for the past two years or so.

I've actually had the same question. The only thing I can think of is simplicity. It might also prevent the damage because of the smooth titanium

Speed, simplicity, and you will never leave your tree straps on a tree. When using the clips you don't have to brake down the suspension to hook to tree. Wrap around trees hook clips adjust hammock done.

I have been using Dutch Clips for 4 years now. I have the original aluminum and the new Ti version. As much as I like Ti, I prefer the aluminum. Easy to use and makes set up and take down a snap and if I need to adjust the webbing, its easy as can be.

I'm with you gunner I think the original aluminum clips are a better design. If Dutch would do those in a ti I would have a order in quick
My ego said, SURE you can.

The DC was made for all webbing suspension. So you don't have to take the webbing out of the buckle or whatever. When I use the whoopie hook suspension I just feed it through the loop.

The example I use is in the process of setting up and trying to find the perfect angles, what if you need to raise or lower your straps and... there is a branch in the way. Without dc's you need to unhook and set your gear down on the floor or something and then fish the strap out of the loop. Trust me I have dont this more then once. With the dc its just a simple unhook and hike it up over or under the branch, and rehook.

I sometimes get questions about whether you need stuff like dutchware. The direct answer is no. Dutchware, and whatever other gadgets you purchase elseware, dont provide something that cant be done another way. What they do provide is an amazingly simple solution to a part of the process that may mean the difference in you having fun in the woods or tapping out. I ALWAYS recommend dutchware to all who ask ( except my scouts, who I make learn the hard way first and then tell them to get dutchware). Bottom line it just makes it easier.

I have cinch buckles and use carabiners while saving my penies for Dutch clips. They appear to be easier (and much lighter) than my current setup.
