    Splicing Tool

I'm trying to make a set of UCRs (using Sgt Rocks youtube video as a guide) but struggling to get the bury through. Using Dynaglide so it's thin. Suggestions? If this has been discussed could someone point me to it?

I'll just recommend a 0.15 Guitar string. Works very well for me.

I like that suggestion but how do you 'grab' the end you are burying?

When using a guitar string, or even real thin gauge wire from the craft store, just double it over and put 1/4" or so of the bury end into "V" of the doubled over wire that have used as your splicing tool

What Twin Dragons said plus; you can use scotch tape to hold the cord on the wire.

I use picture hanging wire bent in a J and taped with electrical tape to make a handle. I hook the J around my palm opposite my thumb, to help getting purchase on the tool.

Cheap splice tools from local craft shops, or H.W.

I bought a set of upholstery needles from Hobby Lobby

smaller ones work for D-G, larger for Amsteel.
$2.29 - 40% download coupon to phone add tax cost about 38 cents per needle aka splice tool.

Grainger or Amazon sells stainless steel wire the thinnest will work well, add a wooden dowel handle.
    Idea from gmcttr

I use the gmcttr special. Drop ceiling wire I believe. Works great with amsteel and on dynaglyde. I had to pinch the tip a bit smaller on the dg. gmcttr hooked me up with the wire, enough to make two tools, and I also used wooden dowels for handle. He's probably climbing his trees, maybe he'll post his video later showing what he uses.

    SS wire splice tool, sources

I agree with Silvertip, gmcttr posted a link to a Amazon for this "lockwire" Malin Company brand which is also available from Grainger which may be able to ship for free to a local store near you if that works for you. Will probably last a lifetime of sharing with friends at group hangs etc.

I have tried aluminum and titanium wire but these are overly flexible and a little frustrating but still fully functional. Thus use whatever you can find, music or guitar wire is very similar. I saw both plastic and metal yarn needles at a local Walmart for about $1.47 for a pack of 3 or 4. These will both work but are not as easy to use, you need to work them gradually thru a long bury. More for emergency repair in the field and fine for locked Brummel loops.

Over all the super comfortable and easy to use SS wire with wooden handle by gmcttr is the best splice tool I have ever seen demonstrated. But don't let the lack of that tool stop you, almost any wire or thick needle with large eye will work.

Grainger link if it fails just search there or Amazon for : Lockwire MALIN COMPANY
    Keyword: stainless steel safety wire
    16Y042 0.02" $8.04 232 feet
    16Y044 0.032" $7.55 91 feet recommended I think, but ask gmcttr first.

A Dritz Loop Turner or small diameter wire folded in half both work well with Dynaglide.

With either tool, taper the end of the Dynaglide by removing 6 of the 12 strands in the last inch, insert 1/2 of the taper into the loop on the Dritz tool or the folded wire and fold the strands back on themselves. No tape is needed and it likely to catch strands and cause problems.

Here's my low quality video demonstrating using the Dritz Loop Turner to pull a bury in Amsteel. It works exactly the same with either tool and Dynaglide.
