Well, it's official, I've got the bug. (and a bugnet!) I had no idea that you could camp in a hammock, and only had experience with rope and spreader bar hammocks from friends places. I stumbled onto the whole shebang from my interest in knot tying. I was a djembe tech for a large African drum importer, and I used rope and knots everyday. I was looking around on youtube for different knots, and rope knowledge, when one of Shug's video's popped up. The rest is history. I really was impressed with his cold camping videos. I've winter camped several times back in Boy Scouts, and still have the spirit, but haven't been in years. That changes this year. After much stalking of the Forum, and Youtube videos, (and Shug-sorry buddy..woohoo) I'm in. I have spent a grand total of one overnight in the western woods and it was great. Really great. My sleeping bag lashed at four corners made an UQ that kept me warm (47 f) and confirmed that this was for me. I got home and promptly ordered a JRB Greylock 4, and also have nice materials on the way for a longer hammock, and supplies for a 12 oz. 850 goose topquilt. Now I can learn my vintage Singer 99! Too fun. Everyone I talk to about it gets excited and "wants in". I believe there is a wave happening. And yes, I have learned a lot more knots, and about splicing, and cordage in general. Anyone that is into modifications, customizing, and DIY should love this hobby, it's deep. Thanks to everyone on HF for perpetuating this great way of camping! Hooked up.
