    HyperD compared to Argon

PapaSmurf or any of you that have handled both Argon and HyperD - what are the similarities and differences between them? I own an argon 11 footer and love it, but I'm intrigued by HyperD for my next toy..

I remember seeing someone post something about this, maybe HK2001. comparing 1.6 of both. not sure what the verdict saw, but he compared sewing, feel, and comfort.

Here's a photo of the 2 fabrics side by side.
(Argon 1.6 on left, HyperD 1.6 on right)
    Argon_HyperD.jpg

Here are some specs and my own personal thoughts on these fabrics.

    Weight
Both come out right around 1.6oz per yard.

    Width
    Both are approx 60" wide.

    Feel

Argon 1.6 - think soft feeling like cotton.
HyperD 1.6 - think soft feeling like silk.

    Finish
Argon 1.6 - uncalendared, pure finish (meaning no DWR treatment or coatings at all)
HyperD 1.6 - uncalendared with DWR treatment

    Weave
Argon 1.6 - 3/16" square ripstop grid using thicker, more pronounced ripstop threads, same on both sides.
HyperD 1.6 - 1/16" diamond ripstop grid using slightly thinner ripstop threads, slightly more noticeable on one side.

    Colors
Argon 1.6 - most of the colors have a dull, quiet appearance.
(Black, Charcoal Grey, Brown, Forest Green, Woodland Camo)
HyperD 1.6 - most of the colors are slightly brighter and more vibrant.
(Black, Charcoal Grey, Olive Drab, Spectra Yellow, Robin Egg Blue)

    Stiffness
Argon 1.6 - slightly stiffer and more substantial feeling in my hands
HyperD 1.6 - slightly more floppy with a softer hand (more drape)

    Strength
Argon 1.6 - Dutch rates this fabric up to approx 275lbs. I've had testers up to 240-250lbs in a single layer with just a little stretch, but plenty of support.
HyperD 1.6 - No firm rating by RBTR. I've had no excess stretch and more than enough support for my 265lbs. This fabric has been used and tested with a person weighing 412lbs. I don't recommend it for that kinda weight, but this test hammock has held up well so far.

    Durability
I believe both fabrics should hold up well over time, but I'd give a very slight edge to the Argon because of it's slightly stiffer feel.

    Where to get it
Both fabrics are available directly through Dutchware and ripstopbytheroll.com for DIY projects.

    Vendor Offerings
Dream Hammock is the exclusive hammock vendor offering all the HyperD 1.6 colors mentioned above.
Dream Hammock is also the exclusive hammock vendor for the Argon 1.6, Woodland Camo, but we also offer all the other Argon 1.6 colors as well.

    Hope this helps.

Wow, great summary and spot on.

I was wondering what the Denier was for the heavier thread in the grid for both, thought someone mentioned 70 for one of them.

Some other threads discussing the topic.

I believe dream hammock and hammeck are the only vendors offering both these fabrics so your choices are a little limited.

According to Papa Smurf Dream Hammocks has them exclusive.,- (As far as the Hyper D goes)

And as far as limited goes, i think Dream Hammocks has more choices than anyone out there,,, iv'e spent hours matching up differant combo's trying to decide what i like the best on thier site..
My wish list for christmas has a Thunderbird at the top and i have been trying to decide what to pick for over a month so far and still cant come up with just one that i want to be my only one!

I really like how the argon feels a little more robust. Plus that brown is just plain purty!
