    Prusick Dyneema tarp line questions

My prusick experience is limited to kernmantle cord with a tripple fishermen knot. I want to incorporate prusicks out of zing-it on my tarp lines and I have a few questions.

    1. Will a zing-it prusick bite on zing-it length of line??
    2. How Deep of a bury should I make?
    3. How long of a continuous loop should I make?
    4. Is the 25% loss due to the bury hold true?

    Cheers?

    2. I think it might be 21 times the rope diameter. And I think that's supposed to be the finished bury length, not the uncollapsed length of rope that it's buried in. But hopefully someone more knowledgeable will reply.
    3. Just make it as small as you can. I think that's around 6 inches for most types of rope.

    This might help http://www.cofc.co.nz/docs/dyneema-s...ing-manual.pdf

Yes, 3 to 4 wraps is sufficient for tarp lines. You can also make the main line from 2.2 and the prussic from 1.75 to increase biteability. But with tarp lines, you want some slip safety built in.

1.5" seemed to work for me with zing it.

If my memory serves me, 3-4" loop, held end to end seemed to work. Again, if my memory serves, start with 10 or 12" of line.

Depends on the splice, application and material being used. 25% is not a static number across all manners of rope material and splices.

IMHO, klemheist knots bite harder on the same diameter cord (all sizes actually) and are easier to tie.

Only grip in one direction, but for hammocks and tarps that's just fine.

    YMMV (probably not)

+1 for the klemheist knot. Holds much better than prusik for loads parallel to the line.

What Opie said, and to add, 12" is about right for the 4 wrap prussik. 4 wraps for the slippery line or 3 wraps for non slippery line will work.

Also, don't worry about the % loss on tarp lines except the RL(ridge line). You don't need to hang from the prussiks, only hold the tarp down. I use braided mason's line for 3+ years and it's a lot weaker than any Dyneema line. I want it to break before my tarp tears anyway.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
