UQ question

Hi, tomorrow I'll be the happy recipient of my new hammock gear underquilt, the incubator 0. and i wanted to ask a question.

If i was winter camping, (with a tent) could i get away with using it as a topquilt over my 12 degree 3 season down bag and stay warm? with both means of insulation i don't see how it would be a problem but i'm not really sure.

To answer your question, yes, as long as you connect it to keep it from slipping down.

Or, if you were winter camping, (in a hammock) you could get away with it as an UQ by itself and use your down bag as a TQ and stay warm. No pad needed.

I would put the underquilt inside the sleeping bag. It's easier to keep it where you need it, and no drafts will rob you of the warm air between uq and sleeping bag. The only annoying thing is the suspension. Maybe think about removing it for ground camping. If it was me, I would probably buy a dedicated winter sleeping bag - less fiddling and less weight. ZPack makes a great sleeping bag. I use one for hammock camping. When it's warm, I use it in top quilt mode - when it's cold, I can zip up and be a lot warmer than I would with a top quilt...
