Hammocks In The News, Or Why An Integrated Bug Net Might Be A Good Thing.

Praise God that everything turned out OK and the fellow hanger is doing fine.

The victim said he thought he had been sleepwalking. He remembered laying down in his hammock and the next thing he remembered was waking up at the bottom of the cliff in pain. It appears that very fortunately this victim only suffered minor injuries but he was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

"At the bottom of the cliff"!!!! How big was the cliff? Guess it was better that he was sleeping.

An integrated bugnet is an effective deterrent to sleepwalking? This guy had a history of sleepwalking, so a much more effective safety measure would be to not camp next to a 60-ft cliff!

ABCNews said he's "hanging up his hammock."

    60 feet! Wow.

I don't know that a bug net would do much for the die-hard sleep walker. When I was a child I used to do all kinds of weird physical activities while sleep walking and I usually didn't wake up while doing so. The next day, when my parents would find things in the house randomly rearranged they knew I'd been sleep walking. I also used to wake up looking for the zipper while tent camping and it would take me several minutes to remember where I was. I'd forgotten about all that....great. lol

Glad he's okay. The worst I've done is urinate down the steps when I was about 7 or 8 years old. I woke up to my grandad saying "What're you doing!?" I had apparently been doing it off and on for a month or so. They had a plumber over and everything to try and figure out where the leak was coming from.

The leak was I. I took a sleepwalk leak down the stairs.

After he woke me up mid-whizz, I didn't do it again. Weird. I haven't had a sleepwalking incident in 30 yrs.

I still suppose that waking up at the bottom of carpeted stairs in my own urine would be preferable to waking up at the bottom of a 60' cliff in my own blood. Poor guy.

At least the guy is ok, could have been worse and they left out some important, like what kind of hammock was it.....

potential advertising selling point for netted hammock.....our netted hammocks keep you in the hammock at night and not wandering around in the dark

or as said not camp next to cliffs ?
bummer but kinda not to smart if you know you have that issue ?

when I taught diving I used to get some folks when asked why they want to dive
those that say to overcome my fear of water ? hahahaha OK maybe start somewhere else first not scuba !!!!

So, how did he get out of the hammock? Was he so deep that he could fall out, and get up to walk? Otherwise, the sit and spin thing for getting out still requires a little bit of effort. Would he not sleep through the unzipping of the zipper, too?

This guy obviously wasn't using his TTRS (Titanium Tether Restraint System) by Dutch. Glad he's ok.

I'll bet he never does that again,, when i was a kid i used to sleep walk every night, my family still tells the stories but one morning i woke up behind my house sitting on the edge of the bridge that went over the creek that ran along the back side of our house, .It was still dark out and i sat there for what felt like forever waiting for it to get lighter so i could see where i was.
Not a long dsrop, maybe 20 feet but the creek was about 12 - 14 foot deep at that spot and i was only ten years old.

I have never walked in my sleep since !
