    Under quilt protectors

I'm thinking of ordering an UQP. Is there anything I should know before using.

I think I'll get a ripstop not a sil waterproof one.

I use the UQP unless I am using a sock. I struggled for a good way to store and settled on just laying it in the hammock. No extra stuff sack.

my buddy got the 2qzq under quilt protector and it does great to protect his hammock gear incubator 0. as you said you were going to get the ripstop that would be the best choice bc it offers protection and breathability unlike the silnylon. In some people's case using one that does not offer alot of breathabililty can potentially cause condensation buildup on or around the underquilt which will probably have down in it. if synthetic then the problem should not be that critical at least but should still be aware of.

How does argon fabric compare to ripstop in so far as condensation is concerned? Are they about the same or is one superior to the other?I wonder if anyone uses a silnylon along with a vapor barrier to prevent condensation.I have been told it works to do that but am looking at the UQ as an alternative. It's my understanding that argon is lighter.

Had some splash and blown rain on my Argon DIY UQ and the DWR did it's job great.

    Got the Argon from Dutch.

But I still made a polycro UQP for that set up. Around here the wind and low humidity means a waterproof UQP is not likely to make condensation.

A breathable one with a good DWR would probably be better, though.

Polycro is .5 ounces per square yard.

Dutch now carries a .67 ounce Argon. It's not likely to tear up.

On my hammock that has an under cover, I keep it on the hammock. I don't pack it in a separate stuff sack. I switched from SilNylon to breathable ripstop I want that vapor to escape (if possible), not condense on the inside of the cover.
