First night in our diy stuff

My boy and I in our diy stuff for the first time, last night on the back porch. 48° (No idea why they're posted upside down)

He was plenty warm with a hot nalgene, down uq and 20° synth bag on top.

I had a touch of cbs but my uq is made of the same nylon as my hammock, so I know now I need to make a uqp for it to keep out some of the draft, as well as put shock cord along the long edges so it draws in more.

Otherwise, I was very comfortable! My first night camping is usually spent overthinking, and tossing most of the night. Last night, was a major improvement and I got real sleep. So nice.

Tell me how close I am. I haven't looked for any metadata associated with your pictures to confirm any of this.

    You've got an iPhone (iPad?)
You may have taken your photos on the iPhone using the volume button and/or with the volume button pointing up
You posted the pictures from a Windows PC

    CAUSE:
At a high level cameras have a right side up orientation, and a wrong side up orientation. The iPhone is no different. Unfortunately Apple decided volume buttons up would make the camera upside down, despite the fact that our natural inclination is to take photos with buttons on TOP of a camera.

The iPhone associates metadata embedded within your picture or video indicating the orientation when it was taken. The iPhone (and certain other photo viewing programs) references that information to display the photo to you in the proper orientation when you view it. In other words, the iPhone is smart enough to show you the photo/video right side up regardless of how you took it.

Microsoft Windows (and several other photo viewing programs) don't bother referencing the metadata attached to the media to determine proper orientation. If the photo/video was taken upside down, they display it upside down.

So once you combine a dubious design decision from Apple with another dubious design decision from Microsoft, you end up with unexplained upside down iPhone photos/videos when viewed on a PC.

I imagine the same problem could potentially happen with a smart phone from other manufacturers.

    FIXES:
Take photos/videos with the phone in the proper orientation to begin with (for an iPhone, that is volume buttons DOWN)
View your stuff on a Mac or in Quicktime on the PC, which does respect orientation metadata
Use photo/video editing software to rotate your affected stuff to the proper orientation

How do I know this? Let's just say I have a rather large collection of upside down photos and videos from the first six months I owned my newest iPhone.

Great stuff; cool story; good pics. All too good for them to be upside down. So...
