Wilderness Hunting with my NX 250!- Z-liner question

    Here we go again!

Heading out to the Sky Lakes Wilderness for an early season Blacktail hunt! ( ok really for scouting Elk for the upcoming season in mid-October)!

Love my NX250 for this. Weather is already been down to freezing at night (7000' elevation) and having my camp on my back has enabled me to hunt further and harder! (not saying I'm more successful- sometimes I think I am just hiking with a rifle rather than hunting!)

Currently I am using a snugpak bag with a Klymit pad and am good down to about 30 degrees.

I'm looking to improve on that number. I am wondering if I should go with the Z-liner or another brand underquilt? any thoughts? want to get down to about 15-20 degrees- with the proper sleeping attire of course. Pack volume is also a concern, more than actual weight.

any and all help is much appreciated!

I'd recommend a down under quilt. Most quilts works fine as far as I know.

I have the new underquilt from clark for my 250, it is very nice and fits perfectly, but cannot comment on temp rating yet as it has not been that cold around here. I was able to go down to 30° in my Big Agnes encampment and Q-core pad, before the Z-liner, so I expect now I should be good to 10° or 15°. I will report back after it gets cold.

I use a down UQ from JRB (Mt. Washington 4), it compresses well, does not take up too much room in my pack amd keeps me warm on the coldest winter nights. Also it fits nicely on the Clark .
