    Tarp Hanging Finally Dailed In

This spring, in an effort to simplify my tarp hanging, I moved from using a continuous ridgeline with prussiks to using 2 short lines with Dutchware. (Two short lines without prussiks and components fixed about them = fewer tangles and easier storage.) There were just two minor issues that I still didn't like. First, the lines were separate from the tarp (albeit in the same bag), making them a critical component that could be easy to loose when packing up or in the dark. Next, I had to dig for the lines when setting up and sometimes had my tarp blowing around until I had everything hooked up. When setting my tarp up this afternoon, a lightbulb finally went off that would solve this. Why not just attach the tag ends of the tarp lines to the tarp? So two locked Brummel splices later, my tarp hanging system was finally dialed in. The lines are now attached and can't be lost, and I can play the tarp smoothly out of the bag when setting up. Why do such simple solutions sometimes take so long to figure out?

    Here are pictures.

Each tarp line is fixed to the tarp on one end and has a Dutch Hook on the other end, both via locked Brummel splices. Tarp Flyz are attached to either end of the Tarp.

The Dutch hook locks the line around the tree, while the Tarp Flyz make it easy to tighten and adjust the tarp. Excess line simply hangs free.

Looks like you've got the new system dialed in just right.

That's how I rolled for awhile.
That way you can either do the V or like how you have it.

    2ply, Indeed.

slbear, Just to be covered (in case of a leaning tree), I cut these a foot or two longer than my 12' tree straps.

Tallpaul, I've found the thing with textbook "V" is that one side or the other often touches a hammock strap anyway if there's any tree lean to speak of, especially if they are skinny. With a single line and the Dutch clip locking against the tree, you can usually pick one side of the strap to provide the best clearance or even cam the line offside if the bark is rough to make it clear. And if it still touches, well frankly (IMO), it's pretty insignificant anyway.
