Where do you camp?

Mostly private and crown land. Both are are free to camp on due to our Norwegian right of access/ right to roam law as long as I stay off cultivated crop land, and don't camp closer than 150 meters from an inhabited dwelling. Closing areas to the public by setting up fences and other hindrances, even putting up a "No trespassing" sign is illegal in Norway, and has been since the viking age and and beyond.

I'm a long time backpacking tenter, canoe-tripper, and snow-shelter winter camper who is just about to embark on hammock camping this spring. Can't wait! Here in Canada, I camp almost exclusively on Crown lands in the backcountry. I do this because there are no crowds, no fees, no site reservations to make, and no schedule of travel to keep.

We are very fortunate to be fairly close to the AT and the LT, both great trails for hanging. Also, at the locals scout camps you can find lots of great spots too. I am blessed in New England and I know it!

In Maine the regulations in most parks insist that we camp in those over crowded tent villages. I hate them, the sites almsot always seem like they are right on top of each other. But most locals have spots they know how to get to. I camp on the extended University forest land. The University owns large parcels that they manage for the state and the public with a whole range of accessibility.

I hang on crown land and sometimes do some stealth camping in our cities local greenbelt.

you ever go up to bell bay PP or just north of it basically bark lake 90% crown la up there. even at spectacle lodge they will let you park for free and you can just hike right down to the park or any other crown land.

Where I live in the UK (Lincolnshire), is mostly flat, featureless, farm land, with a few sporadic spinneys and not much else. Even if you do find somewhere potentially good for camping on, you are not allowed, because someone (mainly anonymous) owns the land and it would be trespassing!

The forests in this country have been mainly destroyed now so it's very hard here, such a shame.

There is one relatively small wooded area where I have found and am allowed to camp in a 1 hour range from me and even then, EVERY night the neighbouring land owner shines a (brighter than the sun) torch over the entire woodland, just at the point where I am almost asleep.

I think it's time to move, there are starting to be far too many things here that I do not like.

Ah, you see why many of us good Englishmen came over here! There are still vast expanses of woods, primitive forest, and public lands to enjoy.

I've camped in my back yard while figuring out this hammock business.

But I grew up camping in the Southern Rockies of New Mexico and Colorado ...

Except for camping at the deer lease in South Texas ...

Or trips to the Wolf's Den on my grandfather's ranch in Comanche County, Texas.

In seminary, Kentucky.

In ministry, same as above and then Arkansas. Southern mixed pine and hardwood forests are fantastic ... except in the heat of summer.

So many campfires, so many stories sitting around it, and so many great memories.

Honestly don't know what my new UL and hammock camping experience will be. Maybe I'll find out soon.
