From what I've read here, 30* seems to be the consensus optimum sag angle. Would there be any interest in a basic clinometer that could be attached to the suspension line to let you know when you are at 30*?

One day I'll come up with a clever sig.
You could use the clinometer for that as well. If it is pointing to 90*, you are level. I think...

I'll build a prototype and send it to you. Let me know what you think.

I don't worry about that kind of thing. A thought... not a critique as everyone is different... Is it worth getting that OCD to a number? For _me_ no it isn't. There is a leeway built into all these figures that varies depending on a lot of things. Personal preference is not the least. The "general rule" is 30* but that is by no means hard and fast. The brand of hammock matters a great deal. At least one of the popular brands seems to be more comfortable when hung straighter and tighter. If you want to be slavish to the figures there is nothing wrong with that. But for me that takes away some of the fun and freedom of camping with a hammock. YMMV
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I never said OCD is a bad thing. now CDO (for those who need the letters in alphabetical order) might be another issue.

It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.
