    Carabiners on adjustable webbing setup

Do folk recommend using proper climbing rated carabiners on Brandons adjustable webbing setup? I have some climbing ones but they're big and clunky, something half the size would be more appealing.

With the force spread throughout the webbing and around the tree I was hoping I could get away with something lighter?

Mods feel free to move this to the suspension forum if you think it's better there, I wasn't sure

You wouldn't have a vey light suspension with buckles and straps anyway. If your looking to save weight try a different suspension, there are safer weighs to save ounces. And waking up on the ground sux

That's a good point, I normally use whoopies but thought I'd try the webbing setup on my RR.

I'll just go with the ones I have I think, the RR will get used more on canoe trips probably anyway.

Brandon (and a couple of other vendors) sells light biners that are rated to 500kg. I can't recall what they weigh, but they're not too heavy. I upgraded to Camp Nano 23s - 23g per biner is pretty light, I think. I used Dutch clips for a while, but you have to be more careful. And I thought it isn't a bad idea to have a climbing rated biner in my set-up. On wide hangs, I often have to climb the trees I'm hanging from, and use the webbing straps with the biner to hold myself up. Wouldn't really trust UL hardware with that. And if I ever need to secure myself during a hike, I can use the biner, too. I like versatile gear, if the weight penalty isn't too big.

... and I find the webbing suspension awesome. I had whoopies for a while: the weight savings weren't that great and on narrow hangs they didn't work well. Went back to the webbing suspension. It's simpler and covers more situations.

I'm talking of a hanging distance where the ends of my hammock almost touch the tree... No space for any kind of whoopies there, really. Had to cheat to get the tarp fit in between...

The Ridgerunner's suspension triangles really take up a bunch of space. I have preferred using the adjustable webbing suspension (over whoopies or UCR's) because it reduces my minimum hang distance quite a bit.

I did swap out Brandon's triangle thingies for Dutch's cinch buckles though.

As for carabiners, I use the Edelrid 19g. It is a full rated for climbing and weighs in at 19.5g. I have some of Dutch's ti clips, but I prefer using the carabiner instead.

I've switched from nano23 biners to Dutch Ti clips.
After more than 20 hangs they've never failed me and haven't fallen off the strap loops not even once.
