In regards to my last post about wanting to like hammock camping.

I really appreciate all the encouragement and advice in my last post. I realize now that tent camping and hammock camping are worlds apart, and yet one in the same. Weight savings are going to be minimal one way or the other, and there are ways to go about getting the ounces off in either case. Same goes with monetary savings, you can go big or go small, the choice is yours. I am still of the mind that I refuse to spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on camping gear, I'd rather DIY or McGuyver something that may not be as pretty, or slightly heavier but works just the same. I have taken photos of my hammock set up and have enclosed them here, http://imgur.com/a/FgEWh

Please take a moment to give my rig a look and if there are any improvements that you think would be helpful please post.

Once again thanks for all the encouragement, I look forward to becoming a knowledgeable hammock hanger.

not sure why whoopies and atlas straps ? I can kinda see why but seems like you could loose the atlas get some tree straps and save weight and bulk
I use the atlas but I car camp

the shock corded tarp tie outs IMHO you should have the cord go the whole length and just tie the shock cord in with some slack on the line that way if the shock cord breaks your tarp might flap but wont blow open
also make them adjustable and longer would be my choice

edited to say since you asked for thoughts otherwise honestly its all personal
but I sldo like hearing others input on setups also sometimes makes that spark go off in your head

I bought the Atlas straps when I was just getting into hammocking and didn't know any better. Just haven't had a reason to replace them yet.

looks like a fine setup to me... the problem with a question like this, at least in my opinion, is that everyone's hammock system is so custom to their preferences. I see things that I would for sure change for me, but they do work, and if you like it, then use the system you have

Looks great, Beach'! Get out there and enjoy it! Setups are so personal, only you and experience can tell you what you want/need.

For the sake or weight savings and/or more-compact packing, we could nitpick a little at cordage selection or the heavy home-store carabiners, but your rig looks mighty fine just now.

For the fun mental exercise/FYI, if this were my rig, I might eventually:
...save a little weight overall and make packing a little easier by saving room, by replacing the paracord with a variety of different cordages. Lots of folks use everything from LashIt/ZingIt to braided line from the hardware stores (lighter and packs smaller). The carabiners could be replaced with something like this, or even soft-shackles (DIY, purchased, or found in the PIF thread). The straps could also be swapped out for traditional straps (DIY, purchased, found in PIF thread). I appreciate the cost-savings mentality. I usually start as inexpensively and practical as I can, and slowly upgrade if I "need" to or when I can afford it. But, again, there's no real need - your rig should work great.

Looking good, man. Better than my first setup too. I had an Equip Walmart dealie with ENO guardian net and poly tarp.

    Yep.

Wish I had pics. It was atrocious. Worked though. Not well, but it worked.

Keep playing around with your setup. What am I saying... it's impossible not to. Have fun. Welcome to your new addiction.

I've been meaning to buy some webbing and use the marlin-spike hitch. Just haven't got around to it yet. The carabiners are the lightest ones at Lowes that would support my weight, for their size they are surprisingly light, but as you say unnecessary weight when compared to the other options.
