I just unboxed my second WBBB and set it up to give it the once over. I noticed right away the ridge line has more slack compared to my other one. Next I noticed that mesh has replaced the nylon fabric on the top half of the footbox and the bottom panel on the cover. Then I noticed the shelf and left pull-out seem to have shifted "up". When did this happen?
Not sure exactly when but I bought a Blackbird in May of 2013 and it was like you describe above.
It seems when they came out with the XLC, they "upgraded" the basic Blackbird as well. This is the way they are made now. Provides more ventilation, a better view not blocked by fabric and a flatter lay.

Just received my new bb same thing ,I thought I got the wrong hammock , Brandon informed me of the new design , seems it gets positive reviews. Can you see a difference in comfort between old and new?
I'm also curious about a comparison in case I decide to get a new 1.1SL in addition to the older 1.1DL I currently have. I like my old WBBB, but don't want to be disappointed with the new design.
I would be interested in looking at one as well. The wall of fabric with the lack of view was one of the things I did not like.
I have thought about it too but as my tarp blocks most of the view anyway, its not big deal to me. Besides, I am usually too busy being comfortable and or sleeping in my BB to worry about the view.The wall of fabric with the lack of view was one of the things I did not like.
