    Hello From Northern Japan

    Hi Everyone,

I didn't even know hammock camping existed until a few months ago. The first gathered end hammock I ever saw was strung up between cargo in the back of a C-17 on my way to southwest Asia. That guy was the only one on that flight who really got any sleep and after seeing his set-up I had to have one. He had a ENO double nest so I ordered one as soon as I got access to Amazon. Since getting that I started exploring the internet, found Shug on YouTube and that led to Hammock Forums. I haven't even been able to sleep in my hammock yet (there aren't very many trees here) but it is one of the first things I am going to do when I get back to Japan. If I don't get to string it up in the jet on the way home (there will be a lot more people with hammocks on the way home). I have been cruising the forum for the last few months and I learned a whole lot of valuable information from you folks here on the forum. I would like to thank everyone for sharing their knowledge. I am sure I will continue to need it!

    Nate

Welcome to the forums from another newbie.

Based on you mentioning a C-17 and the fact that your sig says you're in Misawa, I'm going to assume you're stationed at Misawa Air Base and thank you for your service in whatever branch you belong to. I believe I've read somewhere that Misawa is a joint services base with Air Force, Army and Navy. My apologies if I'm wrong in my assumptions.

You are correct Sydney, I have been in the Air Force for 15 years. I was only in Misawa for a few months before I deployed but I still have over three years left there after I get back. They get ALOT of snow and I think the hammock will be better suited for winter camping than my other tents. Thank you all for the warm welcoming!
