Well I gave it a shot. My first diy hammock

It took my a week to figure out how to get the sewing machine to cooperate and then about an two hours to make the hammock.
I'm not sure why but whatever I did to the whipping, it allows for only one real usable lay position which is conveniently diagonal and very flat. The material is polyester something or other and the weight is anyones guess. the store where I bought it was ridiculously unknowledgeable and way over priced. it was the only material I could afford and use but is comfy.

Diagonal is the only comfortable lay in a gathered end hammock no matter how you whip it. Variations in whipping will effect how flat the lay is to some extent. Sounds like you hit on something that worked.

Yeah, I was going for diagonal, but I kind of envisioned a sort of ambidexterous hammock. Sort of lay on any one of the four possible diagonals, but really only one works. but it works well so at least thats something.

Nice work! Using the gear driven thread injector definitely has a learning curve, but practice helps dramatically. Looks like you did better your your first one than I did. Congrats on your first DIY hammock!

    That is a BIG cat!
The hammock looks great! My first one was a crimson red for the same reason as your fabric selection. Given a choice, I'd rather have your color.

I especially like the feather accents along the edge... very swank.

Seriously, looks great. A job well done.
