Big Cedar Mtn off the AT in Georgia 9-20-14

Met up with dakotaross on Big Cedar Mountain for a nice over nighter. Me and Buddy started at Woody Gap and hiked up to Big Cedar for a nice 1.5 mile switchback climb to the top. dakotaross started at Lake Winfield Scott and took a connector trail over to the AT for a nice 6 mile stroll over to Big Cedar. This is the larger of 2 nice rocky over looks.

Plenty of trees to choose from on a grassy area covered with White Oak trees just behind the over look. With the tree cover and a nice breeze I never did set up the tarp.

    View from the hammock

It was such a star filled sky we didn't have a campfire, just sat out on the rocks and watched the satellites, shooting stars and fireworks. About 9:00 I saw a small bright flash on the horizon and thought it might be lightning. A few seconds later there was a bright red one. We enjoyed the show and were surprised how long they lasted. Woke up early to coffee from the hammock and a great sunrise over the mountain views.

dakotaross enjoying a morning cup and warming up on the rock.

We hit the trail early and headed home. It was a great trip and I look forward to heading back when the leaves turn.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

I so wanted to meet up with you guys but other commitments got in my way. Seeing this makes me really want to do something. Hopefully I will have a couple more vehicles on the road in a few days so I don't have to miss these trips. The pics are great, but a real view is best, that and a good cup of coffee, well, and good folks to hang with.
If you prepare for failure you will probably succeed.

Yep, those were indeed great photos making us ALL wish we could have been with you. Well, I've got my fingers crossed that I'll be able to get out more and enjoy some of these upcoming weekends too, and as always, thanks for sharing the experience with us here!

    See you soon,
