    upcoming purchase, advice appreciated..

I live in South Texas and even on the coldest winter nights in the hill country here it rarely drops into the 20s, and is generally significantly warmer. I am not buying a TQ at the time, due to my wife having me on a hammock gear allowance, instead i am going with a 25f sleeping bag. So, should i get a 20 or 40 incubator considering it rarely gets into the 20s here, AND i am a warm sleeper (.wife will sleep under 1-2 comforters and i am toasty under a fleece throw). Also i plan on incorporating a good UQP.

    Weight does matter some, but the 5-6 oz difference between a 20 and a 40 aren't a huge game-changer

If it were me, based on everything you've said I'd start with the 40 and do the 20 later if you feel the need.

    Overstuffing is an option also...

I would go straight for the 20°. I would go with the lowest degree under quilt, as you can easily vent it. There is no reason to purchase multiple UQ in my opinion and experience. I have used my 20° UQ in almost all conditions, including nights where it was in the high 60s and felt fine. The key is learning how to vent you're under quilt. I recommend purchasing an under quilt for the lowest possible tamp you will encounter. This is my two cents.

I'd say since your a warm sleeper go with the 40. If your feeling a need for an insurance policy go with 1 or 2 ounces of over stuff.

I thought there was no temperature benefit to over stuffing. I think it is just to compensate against any future degradation of the down. I'd probably go with the 40 and bring a torso reflectix pad for the really cold nights.

if it where me and could afford the 20 it would be my choice. if in fact you don't think you need a 20 then 40 it is.... I recently slep with just my tq witch is rated at 50 with 2oz overfill temps got down to about 48, no under insulation at all and was surprisingly not to bad with just a chill on my back

I totally agree with this method, you can always vent the UQ if it's a little to toasty, if you buy the 40 and it not enough then you stuck having to buy another quilt to get you down to the temps you need,

Yep, 20 degree, no overstuff. Of course, you can always ask them to make you a 30, you know?
