    New Hanger in NJ

    Hello,

I'm Matt from NJ. I've been intereseted in getting a hammock for a while, and finally purchased an ENO DN at an REI labor day sale. Little did I know how much I would fall in love with my hammock. I use it every chance I get, setting it up in my backyard if I get home from work when it's still light out and I've gone on day hikes at Harriman every weekend and found some awesome hang spots. Chillin in a hammock on a nice day just totally melts the stress away and puts me in the right state of mind.

I stumbled upon these forums in my search to understand RLs, bugnets, tarps and what not. I had no idea there were so many different ways to custom rig a hammock setup! I still have so much to learn and will be spending a lot of time combing through these forums.

I started out with borrowed Byer Amazonas MicroRope suspension, then when the owner wanted them back I had to make a quick decision if I wanted to use my hammock that weekend so I went with the Atlas Straps. Solid and easy to use, but will probably be upgrading to cinch-buckles or something else in the future. I have also purchased the ENO Guardian bugnet and a DutchWare CRL w/ TATOs is on its way. Next purchase will be a tarp, from what I've read the WL Tadpole and Big Daddy seem like great options. I'm leaning towards the Big Daddy as I would prefer a bit more room/coverage. I'm not sure if I should get with or w/o the side-pulls though, any thoughts or experience?

Going on my first hammock over-nighter this weekend, the weather forecast says 100% sunny and 0% chance rain so I'm comfortable heading out even though I don't have a tarp yet

Any thoughts or suggestions on my gear setup will be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Welcome from the Jersey Shore. A great way to accelerate your learning curve is to attend a group hang. There is one coming up at Stokes State Forest on the weekend of 10/24.

Have you addressed bottom insulation yet? You'll need a ccf pad or soemthing underneath you to keep you warm.

Welcome from South Jersey! Personally, I would get the pull outs. You will be surprised at how much more room you will have under your tarp. If you haven't already, check out Shug's videos...
