anyone make assy tarp from wm (2) 5'x7' tapes...?

Ok...cost is right around $20 to buy (2) of the 5'x7' campers tarps at Wal*Mart....sew them together and using Pythagoras theory it would be right at 12' length for ridge line. Is this enough coverage for a 10' DIY hammock. This looks like a better setup than the Woot Assy tarp recently on sale, keeping in my some sewing. Opinions...?

You can do it, for sure, and 12' will be long enough (and then some) for a 10' hammock (remember that an hammock is gonna come in at ~83% between the whippings, most of the time, of its length, due to the most common ridgeline length; at 10', this is ~8'4").

That being said, I think that putting a ridgeline in and seam sealing it is more difficult than simply hemming a parallelogram of fabric and adding tie-outs. For approximately the same cost (within ~$10), you can get a lighter and lower-hassle tarp by purchasing Sil 2nds from DIY Gear Supply, using their tarp design for the asym tarp.

Not to knock that Outdoor Products tarp; it's a pretty nice little thing for the cost. It's just not something that I'd use for anything other than a ground sheet, most times.
