    Hammock total weight

    Hello all!

Just bounced over here from WB... Actually considering becoming a hanger...

I would like to know what your hammock and tarp combined weight is. (and any other necessary things to get you set up)

Im not worrying about quilts, pads or other sleeping gear at the moment, just the hammock itself.

    Thanks for your (collective) help!

Welcome to the forum. Currently I am at 4.9 pounds. But that includes a 21.7 ounce underquilt. So without the quilt I'm at 55.9 ounces or 3.5 pounds. My hammock is heavier than most here. I have the HH Expedition Asym. You can save more weight with the UL Asym or a Speer Type hammock.

My 3.5 pounds = HH Exped. Asym Hammock, 4 SMC rings, 24' of 1" web strap, 2 CAMP Nano Wire Gate Carabiners, BlackBishop stuff sack (which holds all this plus the Undequilt), homemade BlackCat Tarp with cords, snakeskins that originally came with my HH and 4 MSR Ground Hog stakes.

I made all of my stuff.
The hammock, tarp, suspension system, and stakes weigh about 24oz total. I could make it lighter by changing the suspension, but I took on the extra weight for convenience and comfort.

You may check out this thread:

Those weights for my gear aren't really accurate at the moment as I just changed some things around and I am also looking at other things to reduce the weight of my system.

    weights

    HENNESSEY HAMMOCK W/O FLY 30.4
    STAKE BAG 5.5
EQUINOX SILNYLON PONCHO WITH WEB BELT 9.3

The weights you wanted, however it is important to consider how the kit components work together.

My lightest kit is a poncho/bivy combination, but the extra weight of the hammock is worth it for me.

    ALHikerGal,

I have two hammock set-ups. My bug free season hammock (Travel Hammock) and straps weigh 15oz. My summer bug season Hennessy ULB weighs 1lb 15oz with straps. I use a 10.5 oz JRB fly with both. I do not factor in under quilts or pads as some type of pad would be needed with gound sleeping also. A couple of weekends ago, I did the Cheaha section of the Pinhoti. My pack with everything except water weighed 7lb 10oz. This included my food and my 15oz hammock along with a JRB underquilt.

OK... so that means next time Im over in T-Town, I can look you up and you'll just be pleased as punch to show me all this right!?!?

I had been hoping to find someone (or several people) fairly close by that I could see and check out their "hangin' gear."
