I'm at 38 oz, HH A-sym, MacCat Deluxe tarp and four stakes. The difference between my single wall tent set up is 66.9 oz (Wanderlust 2-4-2 tent, ground cloth, BA pad and 6 stakes) vs 60 oz for the hammock (HH a-sym Ultralite hammock, JRB Nest underquilt, MacCat Deluxe tarp and 4 stakes).

And with the JRB nest you are more versatile than that tent.

It's too late. The damage has already been done. After a 20 year layoff from bacpacking, I started backup two years ago. I just had to get modern with my gear so I now have seven packs, three hammocks, four underquilts, two top quilts, five sleeping bags, dozens of alcohol stoves, etc., etc. If you guys would quit posting about some new and wonderful gear I could taper off.

I have 5 hammocks, 3 tarps, 2 backpacks (I gave one away), 4 sleeping pads, 2 sleeping bags, 100s of feet of line, lots of silnylon, 1 Sewing Machine (sold the other), Scissors galore, a laser to make straight lines, Lots of DWR, I lost a lot of alcohol stoves (I think the wife through them out), a couple beer can pots, I had 4 other pots (not sure what happened to them), 7 books just on lightweight backpacking, and many lost hours to backpacking gear DIY (my wife just told people yesterday that I am obsessed with backpacking).

My turn, I have 5 hammocks, 3 backpacks, 1 backpacking sleeping bag, 2 non-backpacking sleeping bags, 1 old down bag that I got to harvest the down from, 1 summer top quilt, soon to be 3 top/bottom quilts, 2 tarps, 5 alcohol stoves. In the fabric dept there is 23+ yards of 1.9 untreated, 20+ yards of DWR, 15 1.1 untreated, 4 yards of sil, 5 yards of noseeum, untold number of small and large scraps, and 8 yards of unknown ripstop at my parents house waiting for me. All of which is screaming at me to be turned into something.

Forgot to add that is over the last 2-3 years after I got back into it. I think I have issues.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

ALHikerGal - Click Here - these are mostly real-world setups that people use.

Has a survey been done to see what the numbers are for each brand of hammock? If not, I may put that together...

I suggest just going to each site and check the numbers:

that would be good info to be able to look at on one page.
seems that it would need to be done in the form of a chart so a person could compare different hammocks w/ different options (different models, lengths, bug net, etc).
I too will something make and joy in it's making
