I dont like Aluminum Descender rings.

After hanging in my hammock a few times, I have realized that I cannot hang in my hammock without the webbing slipping through the descender rings. The only way I can get the webbing to stay where I want it, is to at least double slip knot the webbing, if not triple. I also noticed that no matter how tight I tied the knots, when I got in the hammock, the webbing would slip at least a half inch to an inch. On this last hang I saw that someone else had the triangle webbing "descenders", from warbonnet outdoors, which seemed to have sharper corners and grip the webbing a lot better. My question to you is, have you had any problems with this and if so, what was your solution?

Specifically why we worked on the triangular buckle plates. No slip, no need for a backup knot and much smaller and lighter weight.

Had a pair of descending rings drop me because I forgot to tie a knot. Even with a knot they slipped some but I always set up then loaded the hammock & readjust. Finally tossed the rings & got regular buckles. No problem since but I still tie the knot for safety. Still preload & readjust if necessary.

I've never noticed a problem or slipping. I tie a half hitch for backup and that seems to be sufficient. I use 3500# webbing. I wonder if different thicknesses of webbing hold better than others?

Just use a slippery half hitch and you will be fine. Been using that for many hangs with no issues. What works for others may not work for you, no worries. Luckily we have many options for suspensions on hammocks so if one doesn't work for you, there are many other to choose from. I use several suspensions for my hammocks. I use ring buckles on some hammocks and UCRs on others.

I use rings with my HH stock suspension instead of tying knots. I been doing it almost a year now and so far no slipping as long as I use a half hitch. I tried using rings with webbing and like you, found they slipped a bit but a solid half hitch stopped that.

I also forget to put the half hitch in one time...but only once

I moved to Dutch clips with the webbing this summer and I can tell you, I won't be going back to rings with webbing. Amazing how much easier and quicker the set up was. And no, I don't work for Dutch...I just like his gear!

I use them. The only problem is they get too tight after you sit in your hammock and have it "fully stocked" with your underquilt, top quilt and anything you may keep in you hammock like clothes. It's difficult to adjust the hammock after it is loaded. After I first put up my hammock I lay in it and bounce in it and lay in it again. This is the time to re-adjust. Once it feels good then I hang my underquilt and put my stuff in. If I have to re-adjust after that, I have to ask someone to hold the hammock up for me. But usually this doesn't happen if I do the adjusting first.

It's not a deal breaker for me. I like them. I've tried other suspensions and they slip or stretch on me. So I keep going back to these. It's just something you should know since you asked.

I switched out both HHs to straps with aluminum descender rings without any issues. I purchased pretty thick and course 1 inch webbing though. I put a slippery half hitch "just in case", but have not on several occasions and haven't experienced any slippage.

I'm guessing the rings would "bite" more on a line than on webbing - and it would depend on how wide the webbing. I'd use rings any day on line - but I'd still put in a backup slippery half hitch. With Atlas straps or python straps - no slipping, no over tightening.
