I also use the HF straps and have used them with my Elephant trunks for a few years now. I have Dutch's straps and bling also, and I tend to use that more. I also have the straps and cinch bucles from Warbonnet and from Dream Hammocks and love them all. I pretty much have ditched the whoopies except for my lightest minimalist hammock.

A quick Google search shows there are manufactures making dyneema straps. It seems like there should be something out there lighter than any of these webbing options using fancy aramid fibers.

I haven't found any dyneema straps light enough for our needs. The vast majority of industrial or safety applications are either extremely high static loads (ie thick core) or require heat resistance too (ie sheathed or weaved with other materials). Dyneema climbing slings are actually dyneema and nylon and not 1" wide.

The lightest 1" wide straps that I know of are 3.5g/ft kevlar.

gen what is the cost/ft of those? I saw those mentioned in a thread recently and seem to remember you have to by in bulk, what was the min. purchase.

    Certainly not the HF buckles!

How do the dutch straps compact in comparison to the HF straps?

Is this what you are referring to?

    50' x 1/2" kevlar for $18.00

Given that it is greenlee it looks like the kevlar is mule tape that Sgt Rock warned us about in his UL suspension that may well kill you.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-feet-1-2-...item1e87ee6792

From the greenlee site, so not kevlar.

Availability is rare, unfortunately. It's a milspec tape that the manufacturer was liquiditating under cost on ebay, probably overrun on a contract. I don't know what true pricing would have been. I paid about 20c/ft shipped, for about 300ft, and at that price one of our enterprising cottage vendors would have no trouble getting it into our hands with a markup they could profit from and a price we could live with. Even double that price should allow for the business case to work. This is assuming the straps hold up well enough to the abuse we subject them to, particularly the UV exposure. Early days in that department.

The link from the other thread is dead.

    [/QUOTE]

The only "kevlar" webbing I found on ebay is poly mule tape and 1/2" wide.

Also I saw your straps on the thread started by MDSH and see that you posted the weight of the strap is 42 grams for a 5" strap. The HF 7' straps are 32.5 grams. And are made of poly and you can purchase 2 - 12' presewn straps for $4, lighter and no sew with no known problems to UV.

Thanks for posting and enjoy you kevlar.
