    Warbonnet Ridgerunner Single vs Double

I would like some opinions about getting the Ridgerunner single layer vs double layer. I will be using a full length lynx underquilt, so I do not need to put a pad in it. I weigh 175 lbs. Is there a stability or comfort reason I might want the double layer? I also noticed the bridge bars have a weight difference of 12 ounces for the double and 10 ounces for the single. Not sure why that would be. If the single layer is just as comfortable, the weight savings would be nice.

    Any input on this dilemma?

I think it is just for a pad. Will give a bit of ridgidity as well.
Mine is a double and I am going to remove the outside layer to lighten it up. At least I keep saying I am.

At 175# the single layer will have more of a stretchy feel to it. Some don't like it, some prefer it. With the single layer having a weight rating of 200# as opposed to 250# on the double, you're well within the range.

The spreader poles at the head end are loaded a bit more, because the top half of your body weighs more. The poles are larger in diameter, and also longer.

The main reason to get a double layer is if you're using a pad. I suppose another reason is that mosquitoes can't bite through two layers as easily; obviously, the value of this benefit depends on where you live and camp.

But even if you have an underquilt, a pad can sometimes be nice: it seems to widen the hammock, giving more shoulder room and room for your feet to not be on top of each other. This may be a comfort reason. Can't think of a stability reason. My guess about the different weight spreader bars is that the DL is rated for higher weight, so it gets slightly heavier spreader bars than the single layer version.

When we bought ours we bought two double layer RR's. We do have underquilts but also from time to time here in Florida go quiltless and the double layer keeps the mosquitoes out.

I have the double because that is what Brandon had with him when we did the hang in Colorado. I use an UQ so I don't need it for the pad. I have often thought I would rather have had the single as well.

Love my double layer. I have used a UQ mostly, but do sometimes use a exped downmat. The pad does flatten things out a bit more and raise you up a touch. I sleep in mine nightly with a light UQ and TQ and think it is perfect. The weight rating is why I went DL, because I'm a bit over 200.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the strength to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
