Hammock Virgin: First time report.

Hello All,

I recently read up on the joys of hanging over on "TheUltimateHang.com".

I was tempted to impulse buy hundreds of dollars worth of gear. Instead, I decided to test the waters via a $15 Walmart.com hammock and a couple of hardware-store stainless steel hooks mounted out on our patio.

Weather here in Northern California has been ideal for hanging. Mid-fifties at night. Thin pad underneath and a light sleeping bag on top. No tarp. Just the stars above and a patio table at arms length to provide myself with a night's worth of rock-a-bye-baby cradle action.

Yep. My wife was pretty impressed at how much hammock $15 would purchase on Walmart. I then purchased a hand full of various suspension goodies from Dutch Ware. She wasn't nearly as impressed.

But I am! Super light. Super strong. Super easy.

Impress your wife even more and make your gear. Check out the DIY section. Talk about addiction!! Also, check out Shug's videos. Link is in his signature. He is like a comedic encyclopedia for hammocks, tarps, ridge lines etc. Glad to have you on the forum!

+1 on the DIY section and shugs vids .... excellent info.
I've made two tarps, repurposed and old sleeping bag as a TQ, rescued an old hammock and made a bug net for it, several alcohol stoves and currently working on an Insultex UQ. Find yourself a thread injector and get going ... lol
