I guess I'm one of the lucky ones in that I haven't touched my SF with any kind of sealer and have never had a leak. Even in storms with 50mph winds and driving rain I've remained leak free.
Of course now that I've opened my big mouth, I'm sure I'll get wet on my next trip here in a couple of weeks.
If your lucky enough to be outdoors, your lucky enough!
I just got back from hiking around Tahquamenon Falls area. We had awesome weather for the most part, but it rained on the last night and the way out. Out along the Tall pines/ Wilderness loop the beaver have taken out a decent section of the trail and built up a rather impressive dam.
Sounds like you need to seam seal those pull-outs and re-examine your pole mod. From what I've read, the pull-outs do need to be seam sealed. The ridgeline doesn't, assuming that you don't have anything pressing against the ridgeline, which it appears you did, with the pole mod.

I don't use the tie-outs on my SF, and have been in a couple torrential 6+ hour downpours and was fine so far. Still going to seal the inside of the tie-outs now when next spring roles around just in case.
I read the instructions but tried the SF out in my backyard in light-moderate rain and didn't get any leakage. Then, I set it up in a heavy, persistent rain and yep, it was leaking. Sealed it with Sil-Net from REI.

sry all but im with bigfoot2 on this 1, I would say that if a manufacturer of a product says it needs to be done then do it or don't buy their product... I own an edge and superfly and neither have ever leaked a drop on me, had my edge in a nasty storm about 2 weeks ago, down poured for over an hour and was dry as a bone! If it clearly states on his website to seal something then you chose not to its his fault????????????
If you are in porch mode, you'd notice any drips more. Especially if you are cooking under the tie-outs
In A frame mode, any leaks from the tie outs drip down the side of the tarp. Hard to get wet from that.
