Seam seal EVERYTHING! Even if it is factory sealed I check every inch and then seal as necessary; I trust no one when it comes to staying dry. Every tarp seam, every dry bag seam, every bottle cap and hose connection.

I might have learned it 30 years ago, but I learned it well. Everything that is supposed to be waterproof should be thoroughly tested AT HOME and then sealed or replaced BEFORE you stake your life on it. Newbie or not, everyone should follow that rule.

At least the Urethane will be easy to get off! It doesn't stick to Silicone very well.

Ok, this has been bugging me for some time and this is as good a place as any to ask:

Most everyone seems to be using either Permatex or Silnet for seam sealing. However, I have never seen anyone post here about using what is suggested on the WB website, which is GE Silicone II.

Is there some reason people don't use what is suggested by the vendor?

Permatex and silnet are easier to work with, for me anyway. If using pure silicone I would cut it to thin it out and make it easier to apply.

For me, the applicator tube of the Permatex is easier to deal with. You can get a fine bead, which is why I recommend it.

So glad I stubbled across this post. I never read the part about needing to seam seal the panel pulls, so I've neglected to do so. Luckily I have not been in a heavy rain with my SF yet. I guess I have a new weekend project. :-)

Think this might be a problem? I think so. This sealer is not doing to hot. Don't use the Coleman stuff. Strangely enough it worked good on my water bag for my gravity filter.

I've been in downpours with my SF and have not gotten wet.

I'm super noob with silny so I guess it's time to stop pressing my luck.

Was your waterbag urethane coated and not sil? That would explain it.

I'm not sure. That could be the difference. It's one of the water proof stuff sacks from WalMart.
