Your Choice of Best Winter Suspension for Hammy and Tarp?

It's a blizzard, and it came right after the freezing rain. Snowing so hard you can't see. Everything's wet, and your hands are numb with deep pain. You say, "What in the world am I doing out here?"

Good question, but somehow I love it.

Here's your chance...all you Frozen Butt folks and all your brethren, "What's the best, most hand friendly way to set up your rig?" Winter's comin!

If your hands are numb with deep pain, you have a much worse problem to sort out. Just sayin'.

For me, on my hammock, I use whoopie slings and marlin spike hitch year round. For my tarp, since I use a canvas wedge hot tent for winter, I use ratchet straps to attach that to the trees.

    Cheers

Cinch buckle are good for winter since I can use them with gloves on. Having said that I've been able to use whoopies in winter but I've seen them slip in really cold temperatures. Also, there are going to be many things you can only do with bare hands so it's a matter of doing them quickly and rewarming as soon as possible.

I've just switched my suspension over to dutch ti cinch buckles and plan on using them this winter. I think that they are about as simple as setups get. The only problem is that the suspension is heavier than my hammock

Thanks for your replies. Had this question posed to me last winter after an eventful hang. Some of the folks, including me were certain nothing small would ever be used again in such adverse conditions. Bigger hardware with less dexterity required seemed the way to go......unless I move to Texas for the winter!

Personally I do not understand this fascination people have with trying to do things with gloves or mittens on. I've done plenty if winter camping (down to -20) and whenever I need to do something that requires dexterity I simply take my gloves off. I've never had frostbite or anything close to that....I know some will disagree and that's okay...HYOH. I just find it simplest to have a nice pair of mittens I can slip on and off easily. So my answer is whoopie slings...the same for me as in the summer
