    Quilt Dry Bag Question

So I've got my Incubator/Burrow 20 combo now (with 2/1oz of overfill respectively), and in my perpetual quest to lighten my base pack weight I'm looking for a couple of very lightweight dry bags to use as stuff sacks so I can leave my 7oz pack rain cover at home (and eliminate the hassle of pulling it out and covering the pack when the rain starts). I'd like to tap the knowledge and experience of the HF community to pick the right ones....

Is anyone using a Cuben fiber (or other ultralight) roll top dry bag for their quilt? If so, what do you use, what size did you get, and do you like it?

I've looked at offerings from Zpacks (http://zpacks.com/accessories/dry_bags.shtml) and Granite Gear (http://www.granitegear.com/outdoor/p...t-drysack.html). The Zpacks options are cheaper, but the GG are lighter. Has anyone tried either of these? If so, which size do you use?

My gear philosophy is "buy the right gear once" - even if it's more expensive, it's cheaper than replacing the wrong gear in the long run...

Won't a wet pack add more than 7 oz even if the contents is dry? If I were you I'd use a light pack cover (my diy one weights 3 oz.) paired with a pack liner such as a trash compactor bag.

Very true - maybe I'm tackling the issue from the wrong angle...

I have three cuben fiber dry bags from Hammock Gear for my 0, 20 * 40 quilt sets. The 0* bag is 21" long by 15" wide. The other bags are 19" long by 12" wide. Very well made. HG doesn't advertise these bags; you have to order them under the "custom work" tab. I think I paid $25 for one of them (don't remember which one) and I don't remember what I paid (or if I paid) for the other two.

I like the idea of both TQ and UQ in the same dry bag - can't see why one would want separate bags. I did a quick review here.

I use a pack cover in addition to my cuben fiber stuff sacks - I just don't want to take any chance the quilts get wet.

That looks perfect. I don't really have any reason to pack the quilts separately. Guess I didn't dig deep enough in the forum before posting - should've known this has already been covered I'll email Adam and see if he'll make me one of those...

    Thanks!

Now you've got me looking at Zpacks' Cuben pack cover - at 1.2oz I can shave the weight and still get the full coverage.

Adam would probably make you a pack cover too. One stop shopping.

I use the zpacks medium roll top dry bag for both my TQ/UQ. Although I have a 40 degree burrow and phoenix both with 2 oz of overfill. I also use a zpacks cuben fiber pack cover.

I've gotten good results with the Dutchware pack cover as well. 1.75 ounces and only $19. Might be worth checking out.

I have to agree with the previous comment regarding wet pack weight too - depending on your particular model, a saturated pack can easily add more weight than carrying a decent pack cover.

Personally I pack my hammock with my uq in a snakeskin and then stuff. Maybe I should do it with my top quilt too! Then id hang my tarp then my hammock-uq-tq. Thanks for the idea!
