For me the weight saving between Webbing and Whoopies is pretty small.
I stick with the webbing for several reasons.
1. I can hang a tighter span easier
2. I just feel more comfortable with the 1 inch webbing than a 1/8 cording
3. I carry long tree straps living in the PNW anyway..
4 Webbing is just simple and i'm lazy

I have used atlas straps. They are very easy to use. They require a carabiner, or some other means of attaching them to the hammock. They are heavy compared to whoopies.
I'd quote a certain book, but that is not allowed.
I use the stock HH setup, with the addition of a spare length of 1 inch webbing for extension (or wrapping really big trees) and a couple biners and a ring. Mostly because its what I have, and it gives me lots of options for a good hang while I'm learning. Right now I'm leaning towards adopting a strap and buckle system as I don't have any of the "cold weather" concerns of some, and it seems to give a greater range of adaptability. Although, I don't know when the next time I'll hang from a 8 foot diameter tree...
My first hammock was a HH so I learned the method of tying. Then I bought whoopies to see how they were made. Started making my own.
Got strapping & cinch buckles from Dutch & made strap system. Now I have a straps system on my Appalation DL, straps on wife's SBP, whoopies on my HH ED, stock with large figure 9 on the grandsons Expedition 2.5 & Scout, whoopie s on 3 SBULs & 1 Equip, stock on another Equip that's permanently hung in a bedroom for the Grandboys.
Tried descending rings but took them off when I forgot to tie the the safety knot on one end & it dropped me. As you can see I like them all. Like to fiddle with them and try to diy everything I can.
No special reason for any one particular system other than I'm an old man who enjoys playing with his toys.
I like the HH method for my HH, and it works, is light, and simple. On my other hammocks I use marlinspike with either whoopies or simple loops.
Lets not forget the single ring suspension. I can get more adjustability with this setup and less line needed. only .2 ozs heavier than whoopies.

I had whoopies on the first camping hammock if bought off of a member. I liked them and never had any troubles with them. I bought a wbbb and it had buckles. I had planned on taking off the straps and putting whoopies on the wbbb but after I tried it with the straps I liked them better it was just quicker and easier. I have had the wbbb about a year now and have no plans on using the whoopies.
