My local school system just had their first ever fall break. Rather than hang around the house and twiddle our thumbs, we checked the weather and tentatively planned a trip ... I really don't trust weathermen farther than I can throw them. Thursday morning we headed out with plans to camp in the TN portion of the GSMNP, but the forecast north and east of there had changed quite a bit (in our favor) and we adjusted our plans to drive the Blue Ridge Pkwy instead. Due to us pulling into various camp sites late each day, we weren't able to find sites that were able to accommodate my large family the first couple of nights and we had to resort to tent life. Talk about sore hip bones and restless nights. Toward the end of the trip, we were able to hang and realized why we enjoy the hanging life.
We had cool nights, but nothing too cold. When we were able to hang, we didn't need any underquilts. By the time breakfast was finished each day, we were in shorts and t-shirts.
